Mined in New Mexico, Tyrone Turquoise is a highly prized turquoise. It is a naturally hard turquoise, requiring little to no stabilization with a gorgeous deep blue color range. Unfortunately, due to current copper excavating procedures, Tyrone Turquoise is no longer retrieved from the mine.
Exotic sounding Lapis Lazuli is a natural blue stone, the very best of which is found in Afghanistan where it has been mined since ancient times. Once powdered and used to paint illuminated manuscripts and as clothing dye for royals only, today lapis is a staple in the colorful fashion statements of Southwest fashionistas.
The iridescent nacre coating found inside shells like abalone, spiny oyster and others is what we call Mother of Pearl. Mother of Pearl has historically been used in mosaic and jewelry inlay work and set in jewelry as cabochons. Mother of Pearl is a soft, feminine complement to the bold colors of Southwest fashion.
The trade name "White Buffalo" is used to identify this beautiful, unique stone which is mined out of Tonopah, Nevada. While not technically turquoise this hard stone grows in veins and cuts like turquoise. The black chert within the stone creates beautiful patterns, more expensive pieces can have an almost web-like matrix.
