Larimar is a type of pectolite found only in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. The largest supply of larimar is found on one mountainside in the Southwestern region of the Dominican Republic. With blues echoing the sea around it, larimar was named after the daughter of one of the men who ‘rediscovered’ larmar in 1974. Larissa and the Spanish word for the sea, mar, became the commonly recognized name larimar. You may also find larimar called Stefilia’s Stone, but you will always recognize it’s unique coloration and patterns.
