These Sterling Silver earrings were handmade by Diné silversmith Carol Wylie with genuine abalone shell and faceted amethyst gemstones.
Abalone is a traditional material in Navajo jewelry, often seen in vintage buttons. Abalone is a mollusk shell, with beautiful iridescent patterns on the inside, or nacre, of the shell.
Amethyst is very popular in today's Southwestern jewelry styles. It's purple tones complement the bright color palette of Southwest style jewelry, as do sugilite or purole spiney oyster shell, which are traditional purple stones found in Native American and Southwestern jewelry.
